Computational Biology at the Intersection of AI and Life Sciences

Welcome to C2Bio — a research-focused blog covering the latest developments in applied AI/ML, computational biology, biosecurity, and synthetic biology. If you work at the intersection of computation and the life sciences, or simply want a curated weekly signal through the noise of biotech and AI research, you are in the right place.

About Me

I am a research scientist working on AI/ML applications in biology, with a focus on biosecurity and synthetic biology. My work sits at the boundary between computational methods and pressing biological challenges — building models that help us understand, predict, and respond to complex biological systems.

My path here is unconventional. I trained and practiced as a surgeon before transitioning into computational research — a shift driven by the recognition that some of the most consequential questions in medicine and biology are fundamentally computational problems. That clinical background shapes how I think about the work: rigor matters, and the distance between a model and a real-world outcome is never as large as we would like to believe.

I am based in New Mexico. Before this chapter, I founded C2Bio as a company — which has since been dissolved — but the domain and the name stuck, repurposed now as this blog.

What This Blog Covers

Each week, C2Bio publishes:

  • AI/ML in Biology — New preprints, methods, and tools applying machine learning to biological problems, from protein structure to genomics to drug discovery.
  • Biotech News — Clinical trial readouts, FDA decisions, and research findings worth paying attention to.
  • FDA Catalyst Brief — Weekly summary of upcoming PDUFA dates, regulatory decisions, and pipeline milestones.
  • Curated Weekly Digest — A hand-selected roundup of the most important developments across AI/ML and biotech, published every week.

Content is kept concise and technically grounded. The goal is not to cover everything — it is to surface what actually matters.
